Beyond Blindness Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Newport Dunes was excited to welcome back Beyond Blindness for their annual Easter Egg hunt! The day was filled with fun, food and lots of smiles as kids of all ages searched for eggs bayside. Beyond Blindness, formerly the Blind Children’s Learning Center, is an organization focused on empowering children with visual impairments and other disabilities to achieve their fullest potential.

For this well-loved Easter event, the OC Sheriff’s Department partners with Beyond Blindness to place beeper device eggs. This allows children of all ages and abilities to participate independently in the hunt.

Director of Strategy and Innovation for Beyond Blindness, Meredith Cagle, led the event and spoke to the purpose of the annual hunt. “The partnership with Newport Dunes created an event where all abilities can adapt, for example, depth perception, limited fields of view, low vision, no vision, limited mobility, walkers and wheelchairs,” Cagle said.

“Nobody batted an eye because it’s a safe supportive environment,” said Cagle. “Parents are inspired and encouraged by the way children are able to participate in all kinds of activities that they would have otherwise been cautious to try.”
